how to make background fade dark when thumb images are enlarged

When I click on my checkout the background behind the shopping cart goes dark. Is there a way for this to be done behind thumbnail enlargements. I like the effect.

I'm new to wordpress, never worked in code. I've battled my way through this. – thanks

The thumbnail popup code, is actually running different code than the shopping cart popup.

It may be possible, but I just don't have the code to provide you.
