Are product images that are uploaded added to the Media Library of WP?

Say you have category like Products > Category 1 > Category 2 > Category 3 is it possible to make the category page when clicked on Category 2, list the Category 3 and any other subcategories of Category 2, rather than listing products that fall in any of it's (Category 2) children categories?

For instance:

Products > Chevrolet > Corvette > 2008 > Performance > products here

In this example, when I click on 2008, I would want it to show the Performance and other categories such as Interior, Exterior, etc. rather than showing the products directly under the 2008 page.
