Hi, I have been referred to your site by someone from the LinkedIn WordPress group who is quite enthusiastic about Market Theme and I have a few questions.
1. Is your Market Theme suitable for use in a multilingual environment, and specifically with WPML? I found a similar question on your forum from back in 2008, but as since then a lot has changed, I do hope that your answer on this subject differs from the answer you gave back then. Localisation and internationalisation go a bit further than translating a couple of words in the front-end. How about for example are notations of quantities and amounts dealt with? In mainland Europe the decimal is a comma and not a dot and thousands are separated with a dot instead of with a comma:
- European notation of ten thousand is 10.000,00
- English notation of ten thousand is 10,000.00
2. I also would like to know whether Market Theme is a theme or a plugin? The name suggests it is a theme, but my friend over at LinkedIn says he uses it as a plugin. Looking in the dashboard of the demo it also suggests to be more of a plugin than a theme…
Hopefully you can answer my questions!
Thanks,
Piet
Through our testing, we have found that the Market Theme website pages seem to do fine with being translated, however the ajax shopping cart system doesn't seem to work with them.
We have created our own language file system however, so by default you can setup your store in English, Spanish, French, Italian, or German. Plus, we have included instructions and the ability to create your own language file if desired. (Although, I don't think the decimal and comma notations are altered.)
As far as your second question goes — Market is a Theme, not a plugin. It processes things like a plugin would, however it's a fully contained theme. It is customizable however, so you are not stuck with the same color scheme and headers as everybody else.
Another method of use for Market theme, is setting it up in a subfolder named "store" or whatever, and then linking to it from your current Wordpress blog navigation. Quite a few members use it like that, because they like their existing blog. They just change the color scheme to match their blog.
I hope this helps.

Dear admin, thanks for your honest answers.
Where you mention the different languages, the key word is "OR" and I have to say that for me that is not a good sign. So I take it that your theme is not localised at all?
You might be interested to read this helpful article to localise your theme and therefore making it possible to use with multiple languages over on WPML.
Hopefully you can in the (near) future a truly international solution, I am looking forward to that day as I received lots of very positive feedback about Market Theme!
Thanks,
Piet

I have a friend that uses market theme and it can help you with setting up the languages you want with no problem. It is said that it is localized to meet the needs of its clients. ![]()
