I am considering buying the product, but I am afraid that the information available here really isn't sufficient to help me decide whether the product is right, despite what you believe.
My main area is in Affiliate type sales and I run the Affiliate Stores blog at http://www.affiliate-stores.co.uk where I review tools and recommend them (or not). The info provided here doesn't give sufficient advice to those of us who are NOT planning to sell our own products, nor does the demo provide any look and feel for that Affiliates either.
I still have questions e.g. If I have 000's of products, then I will want to be able to automate pricing updates … e.g. we just had our purchase tax drop from 17.5% to 15% … I don't know whether Market can accommodate this, but the question may have been solved already in the how-to's that are hidden.
Because you operate a no-refund policy, then as things stand and in the absence of full disclosure regarding capability to manage Affiliate products on anything other than on a small scale, I will not buy and will therefore not be in a position to recommend Market to my readers.
Please reconsider the closed nature of the forum which can still act as valuable pre-sales information and might yet convert me (and my readers) into buyers.
Hi David,
I understand your position, however the reason that the "How-to" area is not open to guests, is because many of the posts include actual segments of the Market theme code.
With that said, the "How-to" areas of the forums really are about customization of the theme — not really about the features that Market offers.
If you (or anyone else reading this) ever have questions regarding the theme that you can't already find answers to in the "Pre-sale" questions area of the forum — Please feel free to ask them. A lot of the community members around here are happy to help, and the post will become a permanent part of the pre-sale questions area. So, in the future — if anyone has the same question, they'll find it already answered.
So to answer your two questions above… Here goes.
First question… If you have thousands of products you want to sell — I can tell you with a good amount of certainty, that the Market theme is probably NOT for you. If you have thousands of products, you really shouldn't be looking at a solution for Wordpress. You'd be much better off with a dedicated shopping cart system such as OSCommerce, X-cart, Magento, or something similar.
The Market theme is more for smaller scale stores that have a few dozen products or less. It's something more suited to artists, crafters, or niche businesses that want to operate a blog and an online store. Although Market is able to operate solely as an online store, part of it's appeal is that allows a person to operate a blog at the same time. Market is also very easy to setup and operate, so it's aimed either at a beginner who isn't skilled in HTML coding for building their website, or an internet marketer who is wanting to quickly setup a niche online store, and then be off to other projects.
Second question regarding sales tax…
Market doesn't currently have extra functionality to add on sales tax. A vendor will simply have to build that into the product price. In your case where sales tax decreased, you'd have to edit your product prices to reflect the change.
I hope I've answered your questions sufficient.
