Hi,

Quick question re Market theme. I notice from the live sites that I have checked out that most are using ppal. I am just wondering does the market theme work with ppals Website Payments Standard too. I assume it would but just want to be sure. This option brings the customer directly to the ppals cc details page instead of the user having to click on the continue page

Hi,

I have a few more questions please

1. Could you actually use another theme besides market and just use the Market Product Manager plugin to add the products or does the shopping cart functionality need the market theme to function

2. Does it work with paypal website payment pro ?

3 Any plans to offer industry style themes in the future & if so can you give me a timeframe. The reason I ask is I have a number of clients that I know this will sit perfectly for but the would require themes more asociated with their relative industries ( arts, architect, beauty salon etc.. – hence I suppose question 1 above )

#1…  No, not really.  You could, but you'd have to integrate parts of the Market Theme code, in order for the fields to show up.  There are two parts to the product data.  First, adding it into the database (product manager) — then pulling it from the database and displaying it onscreen (Market Theme).

#2.  No if you're talking about accepting payment directly on your website.  Market theme is setup, so that users are redirected to the Paypal website when ready to submit payment.

#3.  We are working on the finishing touches of a more "ecommerce" style design.  We are also working on the ability for it to have multiple stylsheets to choose from, to allow for easier flexibility.  As of now however, we do not plan on offering industry specific themes.  Mostly just different colors and layout options.  You will be able to add your own logo of course, along with a custom header graphic image.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

When you say finishing touches have you a timeframe please ( as in tomorrow, week from now etc ).

I have 3 clients ( I give courses to local business on the steps invlolved on how to take their businesses online ) that are looking to setup their businesses online and your market theme looks like the prefect fit ( would love if you had some more themes to choose from ) especially now that paypal can accept cc payments.

I have not built e-commerce sites before but this is the one thing that my clients ask of me and until now I have referred them to a web development co. but your option looks very feasible to do as I am very familiar with wpress.

One question though,

Is the ppal integration configured within your theme and how does that work. I checked the demo and I don't see any fields assocaited with payments. I have also checked the demo on ppals website payment standard and it seems that they generate the code for this – Hence I am confused and just wondering how easy this part of it is to get up & running

The launch date for the new design is still at least a month out.

As far as the Paypal connection goes, in the Market Theme options area — there's a field to enter your Paypal ID (email).  That's what it uses to connect.  It's the same for the whole store.  (You can't have some products use one Paypal account, and other products use a different one.)

Hi Admin,

Okay, I have got confirmation from a client that they want an ecommerce store built so I quickly ran through what I could build for her. She has a specific format that she would like the site to look like so I am wondering how difficult it is to customize your theme and still have it 100% functional. The wordpress option appeals to her as the idea of being able to add products to the site herself is one she really requires.

My questions are

1. how easy is it to customise the look ( the theme ) without effecting functionality.

2. If I am unable to do this myself ( I know wpress, css, html jscript well but not proficient in php , can this be outsource easily )

3. What files should not be touched to ensure 100% functionality ( as in the adding products & shopping cart functionality ). If I was to try & outsouce this what files do I need to tell the outsourcer not to touch

4. Do you offer this service yourself

Hi LOC,

Market can be customized fairly easily with a little code understanding.  If you're going to do something like that, just make sure to make backup copies along the way, and test things after doing anything major.

Sometimes I have spare time to do some custom sidework, but this week is packed already.  What is your timeframe, and what sort of customizations are you looking at?

There are a few members around here who like to help out a lot, and have played around with customizing Market quite a bit.  If you post some of your desires, maybe you can get some other people to chime in.

As far as I go, if you can wait a week or so — I may be able to help.

Hi Eli,
I am meeting the client tomorrow to go through requirements but I already know she would love a site like the preparednessseeds.com one. Is this hard to do Eli  ( I don't need the drop down list or anything for products ) just the site design. I have been in contact with the designer of this but they seem to be busy and have not replied for a while now.

I could wait a week no problem and actually envisage other potential clients wanting this type of theme too once they see one live. If you want you can email me if you want to discuss further or here on the board is fine also

Just as a "heads-up" — I'm more skilled as a coder, than a graphic designer.

For me personally, a visual customization to that extent is a little larger project than I can get into right now.

I can recommend someone though if you want.

His name is AJ, and his website is:  http://www.astereostudio.com

He's pretty familiar with Market Theme.

If you go with him, make sure you send him the Market theme version package as an attachment.  (He's done a lot of Market work on previous versions, and an upcoming one as well — so you'll definitely want to make sure you supply him with the correct version release.)  Tell him Eli sent you.

Hi Eli,

Okay, I will get in touch with him. What do you mean by he has done "alot of market work on an upcoming version". I assume on buying the license that I am getting the latest release so I just give him that one

Oh one last thing that the client brought up and it had to do with her site being secure for shopping ( as in SSL ). I know Market theme is integrated with ppal so that takes care of that but am I correct in saying that it is only the payment page ( as in ppals ) that is secure in this instance and not their own ( they would need to get their own SSL for that I take it and I know that complicates things )

Yes…  Future upgrades are included in your purchase.

The latest version in the download center is the latest complete release.  He's done some work on the upcoming "unfinished" version release.

As far as your SSL question goes, you are correct in that only the Paypal page is encrypted.

Your client wouldn't really need their own SSL, because nothing sensitive is added outside of the Paypal process.

The worst that could happen in the case of a server hack, would be that the person would know what product and quantity a customer wanted.

However, they wouldn't even know the email address, name, or location of the customer — much less payment information.

I hope this helps.

Hi Eli,

Thanks for getting back and asnwering my question on SSL – I sent an email to that guy and he never replied & I mentioned your name so was a bit surprised to not hear from them. I had the meeting with that client and they seem pretty happy to go ahead with my suggested solution of using ppal as payment processor.

Any other suggestions on somebody good to customise the theme ?

When did you say the new release would be out. If it is shortly I might hold off to see what the templates are like

AJ is a college student, so he goes from having lots of free time to having none.

I'm sure that he will eventually get back to you — sorry he hasn't so far.

As far as the new Market Theme design release, it's probably a month out.

Hi Eli,

AJ never got back to me so I will probably look to outsourcing the redesign. If I was looking do something like what preparednessseeds.com has done can you please tell me the files that the outsoucer should not touch in order that the shopping cart would still be 100% functional after the re-design. I would imagine it is mostly css stuff but can you please confirm so that I can let them know. The last thing I want is a customised version that looks great but doesn't work.

Although the Market theme code is throughout the theme files, they should be mindful when working with "single.php" as that contains the most.   There is a good amount of stuff in the "header.php" file too.

Hi Eli,

Okay so stay away from these 2 mainly if you want a working shopping cart.

When the new layouts come out in the new release do they change the look & feel also from market 3. ?
