I have just taken delivery of the activation email but I have not yet actioned it. Maybe I will discover how to register on the forum when I go throught that process…?

You are correct. In order to get to the Support forum, you have to be registered.
Go ahead and go through the account creation process outlined in the email you got, and that'll create your account with the website. Giving you access to everything. You don't necessarily HAVE to download the software right now if you don't want, but please do create your account. The activation code changes on a regular basis, so you may encounter obstacles later if you don't.

Done that registering step now. I am looking forward to working with this theme. I have a keen new client.
I do think your notice at the top, which says, "Please consider registering," is misleading and could do with being rephrased. A chap could spend a lot of time trying to register before finding out that it is not an option until he's made a purchase.
