Most likely an non-typical hosting configuration.

Who is your web hosting account with (what company)?

I had a suspicion you had Hostgator.

Try post #6 of this thread:

Your link is broken. I have searched the forums and found other hostgator threads but all your links to a thread which will help are broken. This is not good. Please give me details of the problem your theme has with hostgator. Can you not just type out the link or message me?

Sorry about that.  This forum modified it without me knowing.

Here's the link again:

markettheme.com/forum/support-area/shopping-cart-not-working

(I had to remove the leading "http://www." so that it would show up correctly here in the post.)

Yes I have read that page, that page has links to 'help' but ALL THE LINKS on this forum are broken (that I have seen).

If you are referring to this as my solution:

add following rules [ 1234234,340151 ] to mod_security for http://domain.com
Please whitelist for the domain

Then sadly, i gave that to Hostgator earlier today and they say they whitelisted but my site still will not add to cart. What do I need to ask them to do, can you just tell me rather than link to pages that dont help?

Thanks and regards

Hostgator have replied with further details, can you read this and let me know what to do to make your theme work please.

I tested several links on your website, and this appears to be a plugin/theme related issue.

I get no response at all when pressing "add to cart" button.

input class="bump" type="image" src="http://www.napierdomains.com/w.....gs/atc.gif" border="0" name="btnsubmit" id="btnsubmit" alt="Add item to cart">

It appears to be related to vcart code related to mk4 theme.

And from the error logs:

[25-Apr-2012 06:18:54] PHP Fatal error: require() [<a href='function.require'>function.require</a>]: Failed opening required '../language/.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/napi/public_html/wp-content/themes/mk4/ajCart/cart.php on line 15

I would check for updates to your theme. Has this cart feature ever worked? There could be a plugin interfering with it as well; might test disabling one at a time.

I whitelisted one other rule found in apache logs for your domain -- 34003, but I'm not certain that relates to this issue

First off, to make sure there aren't any conflicts -- you should deactivate all of your plugins. This will ensure that we're working on the correct problem. After you do that, test things to see if it helps at all.

Next, in the above message it says "failed opening required '../language/.php'

The file should be opening '../language/English.php'

Since it's missing the "English", I believe that maybe your hosting account isn't remembering "session variables". "English" is stored as a session variable, so if it's not showing up that could be an indicator.

You should ask them to make sure that your session variables are turned 'on'.

You should also ask them to make sure that your "register_globals" setting is turned "off".

I hope this helps.

Thanks for this. I have forwarded your reply to my ongoing ticket at hostgator. They have actioned it and it has not worked, please see below. What now?

Thanks for the quick response. I went ahead and created a custom php.ini for your account, and set register_globals to Off. You can see below from the phpinfo() page I created here:

http://www.napierdomains.com/phpinfo.php

Unfortunately, I am still not able to get any of the "add to cart" buttons to work. They give no response at all. Can you confirm?

Do they have a support page? If there's any other information you or they could provide or settings they would like us to change, please let us know.

Did you make sure to try disabling all of your plugins already?

If you like, I can log into your site and see if I can poke around and find the issue.

If that sounds good to you, then just create a temporary user account (administrative privileges please), and email it to:

support [at] markettheme.com

Let me know and I'll see what I can find.

Done!

You should have an email with login details, thank you. I just noticed an ad appearing at the bottom of each page, I never added this, is markettheme hackable and could that be the problem?

Thanks for the help

Ok, I found the issue.

It appears that you tried to setup Market Theme with a "child theme", and this was why things weren't working with the shopping cart.

A few other members have tried, and have found that the Market Theme shopping cart doesn't currently work with a "child theme" type setup.

Once I activated your base install of Market Theme, the shopping cart works just fine.

(Your modified child theme is still an option in the "Themes" area, but is currently de-activated.)

So, the takeaway for now is that you'll have to make your changes to your standard install of Market Theme.

However, if you're just changing stylesheet stuff, then you may want to use Market Theme's built-in "custom styles" abilities.  It works very much like the "child themes" idea.

In the Market Theme folder "custom-styles" you'll find a file named "how-to-add-or-modify-styles.txt".  That help file will explain how to make a custom style of your own, or to make changes to an existing one.

I hope this helps.
