I'm back using markettheme, after going through many many other ecommerce solutions, i'm back where I started. I just want something reliable, clean and efficient that I can modifiy myself.

Theres absolutely NO hope for me to modify magento, No hope modying and updating the craziness that is joomla/virtuemart. I'm just not programmicly inclined. My php knowledge is minimal, and my HTML is a scraping by C.

my site is called ModelLab and we sell digital models, plus bespoke commisions.

http://www.modellab.net

Please give your comments and if you like watch the development of it. I'm getting all the functionality there before I really start to progress the design forward.

My biggest concern at the moment is that I don't like the way the category page looks, so im trying to work on that now.

Thanks and all the best to this great community. I already feel like I know ICY intimately, after reading 100's of their posts whilst browsing the threads here :P

All the best

Thanks for posting.

Your site is coming along nicely.  Very clean and I dig the logo.

Would you mind if I included your first sentence in our upcoming "customer feedback" area?  It would just show the sentence, and your username.  No other info about you.  Let me know what you think.

On another note, Magento is a very powerful platform, but you've got to either really know what you're doing technically, have the time to learn a bunch of new skills, or have the bucks to hire a coder.

Hey I really like your site. One suggestion I would make is to give your text some padding on your About Modellab page on the left hand side. It comes right to the edge right now.

I have a question for you, did you custom code in your footer area? Or did you use some kind of widget for that? I really like it and I would love to add something like that to my shop.

Also, as was mentioned already, Magento takes some SERIOUS commitment and time. I have in fact created 3 of my own Magento stores and they work really well. However, for my latest shop I decided that I would use Market Theme because Magento is just too big for most shops. I mean if you have hundreds of products it's great, but if you are like most and you have a nitch product then Market Theme is a very nice simple option that doesn't require learning about security (SSL), having no support, forums where people treat you like an idiot or talk down to you if you don't know something (not a cool place for beginners), and panic when you break your shop over and over and over and over etc. and then start over with a fresh install only to have it break again for no apparent reason. Magento is great once you know it and definately has its place (despite the above I LOVE IT), but for someone with some basic HTML, CSS knowledge, and going for a nitch, Market is a fantastic option! One of the greatest things it has going for it is the fact that there is a good forum and constant improvements, and a very nice simple shopping cart.

Converting traffic should be just as much a focus as is drawing traffic. Market Theme: http://www.preparednessseeds.com Magento: http://www.liahonafragrances.com, http://www.bunker-guitars.com.

Market Admin - Sorry for the late reply. Of course you may use the statement in the customer feedback section.

Liahona – Thanks for your detailed response. Much appreciated. I agree the text should have some padding in that area. I left it as it uses the same region as the main content and would alter the frontpage too much . I'll see what I can do today. It's been a busy few months!

Thanks, the footer is custom code. I worked out how to get it to look like that ! Took a long time to get it like that! as I had to remove the . and the indent which is tricky. I'll dig out the code for you if you like if you still want it ?

Your right, magento is a bit big for my site right now , it seems powerful but it's so complex to make anything good. Thanks for the advice

If you want to, you can add text on your homepage  (the grid view page).

(Not that you necessarily want to, but you can.)

Here's how…

In your "frontdoor.php" file, simply enter the name of your store page ("Store") into line #12.  Save the file.

Then, go to the edit page of your "Store" page and enter text into the description box area.   Save the page and that should do it.
