I launched a new site today, One Terrific Photo.  Its purpose is two-fold.  One is to sell prints of my art work.  The other is to use the profits from these sales to finance the college education of my poorest students.  I am a high school teacher, and I have decided to address the issue of some students, though quite gifted, falling through the cracks in the system.  These cracks are unavoidable.  A large organism like the federal government cannot hope to attend to the needs of every type of student, and in my city, Miami, Florida, poverty is not an abstraction.  Many students, despite receving scholarships, cannot attend post-secondary school.  Their home situation is so desparate that their absence, and the meager money they might bring in, would cause the collapse of the family.  This is the case in many single-parent families where the mother is the sole breadwinner, and with smaller siblings to care for, the potential college student is trapped in a cycle of deprivation hard to escape.

This site is built in an effort to begin to address that situation for some.  It can't change the entire world, but it can change some child's world completely.
